From Harelbeke to the Stelvio: a sporting challenge with a warm heart!
Anyone who knows our manager Olivier De Brabandere a little knows that he does not shy away from a sporting challenge. Combine that with his passion for health and charity, and you immediately understand why he has set his sights on a special trip: a six-day bike ride from Harelbeke to the mythical Stelvio Pass in Italy. Good for no less than 1089 kilometers in the saddle.
But this undertaking is more than a personal challenge. Olivier also cycles for a higher purpose: raising money for Contactgroep Spijs, an organization that works for people with stomach and esophageal cancer. And he does not do this alone — during the week of Ascension Day, from 25 to 30 May, many other sporting activities are organized: walking, running and cycling over various distances. So everyone can do their bit.
Brenda's story
The Double Digit Rally is supported by Double Digit, a company that is active in investing through capital or people in IT growth companies. With the ambition to do something for others every year and create a win-win for everyone, the starting signal for this unique rally was given in 2022.
" This year we are committed to Contactgroep Spijs, an organisation of people with similar experiences who support each other by sharing their experiences with stomach and/or esophageal cancer. Because on 26 September they had to say goodbye to their dear friend Brenda, who lost her courageous battle against stomach and esophageal cancer. Although these forms of cancer only account for 4% of diagnoses in Belgium, their impact is enormous. Brenda's perseverance and strength inspire us to take action and offer support. To honour Brenda's memory, we are organising a sporting challenge. A 1,089 km bike ride to the Stelvio or those who prefer to walk or run will cover 108.9 km, spread over six days. The highlight of this tour is the iconic climb of the Stelvio Pass, located at an altitude of 2,758 metres in the Italian Alps. "
Olivier is ready and we are already cheering with all the Galicopains!
